Streisand Fans

On the Streisand listserv, we have a growing community of fans who keep in constant touch about our favorite artist.  We have dozens of people on the list, but here are a few who wish to introduce themselves.

First, the fans I know of without pictures of themselves:

Hi, my name is Sue Ellen.  I'm 18 years old and I live in Lima, Peru.  I'm a huge, HUGE fan of Barbra; I really love her to death!!!!!  It all began the day I found a Barbra picture in a magazine back in 1998, it was love at first sight and the madness gets better and bigger every day!  Barbra is not only my idol, she's my goddess, my reason to live....unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of seeing her in a concert...but I dream about her every single day of my life....what else can I say about the greatest star on the world?  Oh yes, well...I LOVE BARBRA!!!!!!!

Irvan AzmierciiMy name is Irvan Azmier from Indonesia and I am 25 years old. I like Barbra very much. I've heard her songs since I was a child from my father's cassettes.  I don't know why her clear voice can touch and capture me on the first listen so deeply.  Until now, I've only collected 31 of 55 her albums because I have some difficulties to find her 60's and early 70's albums in Indonesia. My favourite album is Songbird.  It's very nice to join this mailing list and share some info about Barbra. Valerie_Barnes_ValsPlace.jpg (10775 bytes)Valerie Ann Barnes has been a great contributor to the Streisand fan list, as have others below.  She has a web page with an extensive Streisand section, as well as other interests of hers.  Check it out!
christy_yandek_birthday_pic_3.jpg (90302 bytes)My name is Christy Yandek.  I am 19 years old and originally hail from Miami, Florida.  (Don't look at me.... I had nothing to do with the election.. I just voted for Gore! lol)  Right now, I am a sophomore at the University of Florida majoring in elementary education.  I love kids almost as much as I love Barbra! :)  My love for Barbra started in 1996 when I saw The Mirror Has Two Faces in the movie theater with my mom and younger brother.  The first glimpse of her in that movie wearing that face mask, and I was gone! :)  And from then on, the rest is history......

Yentl2000c.jpg (47989 bytes)Yentl Langholz -- a neat lady with an amazing story which I think would make a great movie.  She is a great fan and has a fabulous web page with her own domain!

devlin.jpg (29442 bytes)Devlin Baskiel, my former Streisand list co-moderator.  She is a "funny lady" and also a great singer and actress in her own right!  Devlin writes:  I live in San Diego, California.  Barbra has been a force in my life since the age of nine.   This picture was taken in July 1998 on my birthday and the book was a gift.  I feel so very fortunate to have met so many Barbra fans that have touched my life through the Streisand email list and the Reunion.  I have a whole new group of friends that I just adore!  Barbra always inspires me to be the best I can be and her work has supported me through the tougher times in my life.  She truly is "The Greatest Star".

Barbara Chadwick and nephew"I have been a fan for 24 years.  I have seen Barbra only twice.  Once in 1984, at the premiere of Yentl in London, where Barbra attended.  And also at her after-film party at the Ambassadors Club off Park Lane.  I also saw Marilyn and Alan Bergman there and several English people, namely Elaine Page and Maureen Lipman - actress and wife of Jack Rosenthal, who collaborated on Yentl.  I also attended the 1994 concert at Wembley, the day after Barbra's birthday.  This was an extra concert date because of the fast-selling tickets, which she did for Prince Charles's Trust.  Fantastic!  Shame I could not afford to go to Las Vegas!  This photo of me.... an audience with Babs!  .....and nephew!  Thank you! -- Barbara Chadwick (with three A's)  I need all the A's I can get!"

Raubyn.jpg (17496 bytes)This is me, Raubyn, saying “good-bye” to my Barbra stand-up right before we left for her Las Vegas shows (Dec., 1993).   "My true confession of being a Barbra fan comes from the fact that every time, here in Tenneesee, we receive 'Tornado Warnings' - I round up all the critters in the house (four dogs and two birds) and send them to our downstairs bathroom. The only other things I bring with me for 'protection' against the storm are my husband, Chip, and two bottles of 'Barbra champagne' (from The Concert).  We all sit in the bathroom while I fret about the rest of my Barbra collection.  Our house has yet to be hit by one of the many tornados."  :-) sarah.jpg (15627 bytes)My name is Sarah Lynn Luna (email address londonere@webtv.net) and I was born August 30, 1980. I’ve been a Barbra fan since November of 1994, when I first saw The Concert on tv. I became hooked, and HAD to see all her movies, buy her cd’s, and decorate my room with her pictures and posters. I think that becoming an "obsessed Barbra fan" brought out a lot of good in me, it forced me to not care what other people think, and to love standing out, to love being an individual. I always wanted to be an actress, and watching Barbra’s career just intensified this desire. Although her work has had an enormous effect on me, one of the things I’m most thankful for is all of the friends she’s led me to. I’ve found that Barbra fans are some of the greatest people in the world.  Click here for Sarah's page.
Bob Kane.jpg (24541 bytes)Robert "Bob" Kane, San Francisco, CA -- I was born and grew up in the Bronx, NYC. Since December, 1978 I have lived in San Francisco. I am 45 years old and I live with my partner Mark. We became Domestic Partners last year on Valentine’s Day and we were married on August 2, 1997. I came to SF for the freedom that exists here to be gay. There is no place like it. My last job was as a Health Worker in an HIV clinic here in SF. I did that for 6 years until I had to go on disability because of my AIDS diagnosis. I have been HIV+ for 16 years and I’ve had an AIDS diagnosis for 8 years. My health is fine and I take really good care of myself. I know telling people I have AIDS always brings up lots of questions, so feel free to write me privately if you want to talk more about it. I would be happy to.  I grew up on Barbra’s music. My parents were huge Barbra fans. My dad died in 1993 from cancer. My mom lives 45 minutes away and we went to see Barbra together in San Jose in 1994. I also saw Barbra at the Inaugural Gala for President Clinton in 1993. My parents took me to see “Funny Girl” when I was 15 and I got hooked! streisand fan who sent picture Craig Barbra.JPG (27415 bytes)Craig Dickson sent this picture of himself and a Barbra cut-out to the list and had the following to say:   "I have been following Barbra’s career since for more than 30 years, when I was involved in staging a live version of Barbra’s song Sweet Zoo from her 1965 album, My Name is Barbra for my high school variety show. This intense connection with Barbra Streisand reached its zenith some three decades later when I was fortunate enough to be seated in the front row for her delayed Anaheim concert when she read her Letterman-like 'Top 10' reasons why she had to postpone her concerts in Los Angeles. This was one of the highlights of my life.  I have always felt that Barbra’s special voice was given to this world to delight, amuse, and thrill all of us in America (and the world), and I have always tried to introduce as many as possible to her talents. I have all her CDs, albums and as many of her videos as I can collect, and would love to talk to anyone who is as in love with her as I am."
