Immigration Fiasco

2007-Jul-6 -- I'm disgusted with the way immigrants are treated in this country.  Who was here to check the greencards of the bluebloods?  Here is what my friend, Michael Chrabaszcz, has to say about it:

TELL THE STATE DEPARTMENT TO BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR IMMIGRATION!

Fairness in immigration is not a very newsworthy topic to most people and I can understand why.  For the most part, it doesn’t affect you, but when the State Department can change the rules, without valid justification, I believe that it is something that should be brought to the attention of as many American citizens as possible.

Like thousands of other legal immigrants, I have spent many years seeking permanent residence in the United States. In June, I, as thousands of others, was informed by the State Department’s Visa Bulletin for July, that I could file for the final step in the process of acquiring a green card. I expended an inordinate amount of time and money to ensure that I was ready to file my "Adjustment of Status" at the beginning of July.

Unfortunately, on July 2, the Department of State decided to revoke their visa bulletin notice and further postpone any processing of AOS applications until October 2007. This does not mean that I will be in processed in October; it means that at best I may be processed in October and the actual date is unknown. For those of us who are pursuing the American dream the legal way, this is an insult that the government can break the rules by just changing them.

There was limited news coverage and Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, sent out a press release denouncing the action.   Some bloggers commented.

I am asking that you let your congress person know that the state department needs to be accountable for their action. If we expect immigrants to legally play by the rules, then so should the government.

If you agree, please:

1. Contact your Congressperson via email (Google search your congress person if need be) this week, or go to

2. Go to their Contact/Email link.

3. Send a message to tell them that the DOS should be accountable, and not be allowed to change bulletins when it effects so many future citizens’ lives:

"DEAR MR. CONGRESSMAN/WOMAN, I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THE STATE DEPARTMENT HAS REVERSED THE VISA BULLETIN FOR JULY. THIS IS UNFAIR TO THOSE WHO ARE LEGALLY SEEKING CITIZENSHIP IN THIS COUNTRY. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT REQUIRES CONGRESSIONAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY."

Thank you for your help!
