My Foray into Queer Theory 10-Jan-03 -- This is my foray into queer theory, which is aside from the theory I heard that homosexuality exists to control the population. Of course I am happy to report that this means of population control doesn’t really work efficiently with 20% of gay males like me having children and 25% of lesbians having children (source: www.familypride.org). My straight siblings have been in long-term relationships and have no kids nor plan to have any, so go figure. I saw a documentary recently on one of those Discovery channels which gave me some profound insight as to why there is a modern epidemic of obesity and ergo diabetes (type 2), which I have, even though I was always a skinny kid and no one else in my family is really big. What I learned was that Humans evolved as hunters and to be very active, as bare sustenance was the norm for millennia. Naturally, then, our survival mechanisms are really amazing and can explain many things, like why we gain so much weight when we starve ourselves. This explains why diets don’t work. Diets are mentally-induced famines. Our bodies retaliate by slowing down metabolism and storing more fat. It's not about self-control. Rather, self-control in forcing famine causes the body to react, at least for those who have the survival "gene" a/k/a the propensity to be able to gain weight. It occurred to me the other day why some men are attractive to bigger men, even when those smaller men are hell-bent on being in as good a shape as they can be. If you think of humans as packs of wolves or lions, there is usually an alpha male. Smaller males are probably programmed to be attracted to larger males because the burlier you are, the more threatening a predator you look, and the bigger you are, the more successful you are at getting “booty” (pun intended). In the same vein, the bigger men are probably attractive to the smaller men because they have the physical stamina to work for the alpha males (mind you I mean physically-looking alpha males, because plenty of alpha-looking men might be passive as hell). I've never understood the attraction to emasculated men, unless that falls more under the auspices of the population control theory and the origins of lesbianism are probably explainable in a way similar to my theory, but I'll leave that for my sisters to contemplate. |
