Deniece Williams This page was last updated 28-Dec-2007 My second favorite singer in the world. Great song choices. She has a 4.5 octave vocal range. She is from Chicago originally. I think this photo, which I got after joining her fan club (notice it is signed to me, although by whom, I don't know), is very flattering. She has been quite a chameleon in her appearance, part of which is probably due to some weight gain and loss, but she is generally very beautiful. I think she had a make-up line at one point. She used to sing with Minnie Riperton in the background for Stevie Wonder. I even like her gospel stuff. The does a fantastic duet with Sandi Patti of "They Say". She has a lullaby album which is really sweet for kids. Her voice is like an angel's. And I know I'm not the first person to say that. Her most popular hit ever was probably "Lets Hear It For the Boy" from the "Footloose" soundtrack. Every song on the album by the same name as the track is great. In particular I like "Black Butterfly", a song in which she hits an unbelievably high note. No wonder the note was written to be so high because she wrote the song herself. The song is a tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr., which I did not specifically understand when I first fell in love with it, but it made so much sense to me when I saw her perform it on a show in his honor for the holiday. Despite her being a "born-again" Christian and very religious (insisting that there be at least one gospel song on each of her albums), she was the singing partner of Johnny Mathis for years. I don't know how she deals with his sexuality, but from what I understand they are still great friends. The even recorded an entire album together called "That's What Friends Are For." Until I saw them perform on TV and noticed how much darker he was than her, I had NO IDEA that Johnny Mathis was black!! I thought he was just tan because his hair is always so straight. Well, that's probably the only thing about him that is! :) Another fan page: http://clik.to/niecy |
