Terrorism comes from Isolationism
by Joseph A. Hayden, J.D., B.A., Political Science

Here is a poignant picture with a link to a great site:

20-Sep-01 -- Let me preface my disappointment in the following article with one point.  I am ONE THOUSAND percent behind President W and his resolution that we must inspect to our satisfaction the actual training camps, such as those in Afghanistan and we will fight the Taliban and every other oppressive and collaborating leadership of self-appointed radical self-described Muslims.  The president is right in saying this is not open for negotiation.  Terrorist groups will be stopped.  I am with my country at this time, and I am with my leaders, including my Republican Mayor, Governor and President.  We shall all overcome our common enemy, the common enemies of humanity -- the suicidal cult-crazy people who believed for one moment that they could change America.

9-12-01 -- Yes, I blame George W. Bush and his lack of political savvy when it comes to the rest of the world.  If he knew what was going on, then maybe the United States wouldn't be made a mockery of.

I woke up the morning of September 11, 2001 at the sound of a plane crash into one of the Twin Towers.  I had planned to go to a job interview because for the first time in my life I have been out of work for over three months.  I am more skilled and educated than ever, but because of the LOSER of a president that we have, every prudent company has created a hiring freeze and people are afraid to spend money because of economic uncertainty.  I did not, however, go to my interview, even though I need work after being unemployed for over three months, because my city was falling apart around me.  The debris reached Brooklyn and this otherwise bright day turned into an ugly cloud of smoke which smelled like fire through the night as downtown Manhattan, where I worked for nine years on and off, continued to burn and collapse.

While watching the news all day, I was contacted and quoted in an article on www.tbgay.com which appears below.

"What can I do besides give blood?" someone asked me online.  "VOTE" I said, "for representatives who are not xenophobic and who understand that isolationism is what brought us to Pearl Harbor and to this disaster.  If we had leaders who were aware of international dynamics, then terrorists would not be making fools and targets of us.

My eyes are puffy from crying.  I remember that hazy Summer day in 1988 when I moved back to New York City as an adult.  I saw from deep in New Jersey those twin towers that have been my pride since then.  I can hardly stand to look at the Manhattan skyline now to see what reminds me of what it must have looked like half a century ago.  I pray that there is justice in this world for all whose lives changed today.  Only a few weeks ago I had interviewed for a job in the World Trade Center.  I have a feeling the people I interviewed with are dead, since they would have been on the 76th floor.  I could have easily been there had I been offered the job.

National and local businesses are shutting down. Disney in Orlando has shut down operations. Airports across the US closed; all flights are canceled. There are currently 22 international flights still in the air and 50 domestic flights.

NYC: "It's surreal; I'm deep into Brooklyn and I can smell fire and see the smoke" says Joseph A. Hayden, NYC. We asked him for a Web Cam shot of what he can see, "there is nothing of substance to see from my window except high smoke"

Washington, DC: I spoke with someone on the other side of the river in Washington, DC. David in Washington says: "you wake up its another day and then everything changed very fast."
How can something like this happen to the US, "the thing about all this is we this nation is totally unprepared!!!" says Lee, Washington DC, "Pentagon is still burning out of control.... National is closed, all govt shut down". Lee's family and friends have been calling, "from all parts of the country family and friends How will we ever deal with terrorism..."
