Smoking Makes You Beautiful

Smoking Makes You Beautiful

Welcome to the most controversial page on my site.  Before flaming me, please read carefully.  I am NOT anti-smoker and I am NOT a prohibitionist.  I am anti-tobacco company (big difference).

See my Fight Tobacco Links...

While agonizing over the death of my father and coming to terms with my own mortality, I asked myself what I could do so that my death would not be in vain (and believe me as far as I’m concerned it will be centuries from now). I remember one time getting furious at my mother for saying about the smoking issue, "One person cannot change the world, Joe" and "You’re going to get killed trying to tell people what to do."  Well, God bless my mother and her backward Calabrese perspective (after my father died of smoking she was actually bringing "American" cigarettes to her sisters in Italy without realizing what she was doing until I mentioned it to her), but the Mafia does not run my life and I won’t succumb to political pressure or anything else to prove my point. I told my mother "What if Martin Luther King’s mother had told him one person couldn’t change the world?" I rest my case.

One person alone CAN make a difference.  Even though I am not alone, I alone have sent hundreds of letters to politicians, the Department of Justice, celebrities, store owners, restaurants, large corporations, even the tobacco companies themselves to ensure that maximum enforcement of every regulation I know about is kept to a tee and that extra steps are taken whenever necessary.

brookeshields.jpg (7074 bytes)I have this picture of Brooke Shields because she has for many years been a wonderful campaigner against smoking among teens since she was a teen herself (i.e., before it was fashionable).  I would like to compile a list of celebrities who should be noted for their anti-tobacco stances including Yul Brenner.  Whores like Robert Redford, Paul Newman and Clint Eastwood have all taken money from tobacco companies to make their movies.  I won't even buy any of Paul Newman's products because I know he doesn't care if you smoke.

"Sooner or later, EVERYONE stops smoking."

Please boycott Philip Morris, General Mills, Kraft, Maxwell House and Nabisco (yes, that includes Oreos) and all other tobacco industry-owned entities.
Don't listen to the Tobacco Industry and their conflicted interests, Non-Smokers' Rights do NOT run contrary to Smokers' Rights! We all want to live in comfort!  This is a non-partisan issue folks.

cough.jpg (15598 bytes)Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) is the organization I am most proud to donate money and time to. Other institutions (most, if not all of which are non-profit) include The American Lung Association and the American Cancer Society, which has a great plan with for a Great American SmokeScream in November 1996.   I also belong to Stop Teenage Addiction to Tobbacco (STAT), IN-FACT and New York's own Smokefree Educational Services, Inc.

  • Altruistic Tobacco Underwritings are Well-Hidden -- Some organizations that deserve criticism for taking tobacco money surprisingly include the Whitney Museum of Art, Harlem Ballet, NAACP and ACLU.  I will not give money to these organizations so long as they think it is okay to take tobacco payoffs.
Please also remember that the tobacco companies targets minorities, children, homosexuals and all other "undesirables" according to the tobacco company executives, including the number one drug dealer in America -- Tisch.  The same Tisch that ran CBS and tried to keep 60 Minutes from airing a whistleblower for the tobacco industry. The same Tisch that owns hospitals to house the people he made sick with his products!  The same Tisch who gets patted on the back for his philanthropic donations to Gay Men's Health Crisis to fight AIDS.  Incidentally, HIV positive people who smoke develop symptoms of AIDS faster.

ad6.jpg (8926 bytes)joecamelchemo.jpg (47470 bytes)Please be cognizant of how tobacco advertisements are forced into children's eyes during sporting events and in the movies when characters unnecessarily suck on a cigar or cigarette because they tobacco companies pay producers to add it to the script when not necessary.  Ironically the laws against electronic media advertising of cigarettes don't seem to pertain to tobacco ads which manage to get on TV all the time through sponsorship of sporting events! What modern day athlete would be inclined to smoke and still be in a condition to compete?

nosmokepostcard.jpg (40734 bytes)The tobacco industry killed several people in my immediate family, as well as millions of others every year. Most of my surviving (and sick) friends and family still smoke. While smokers are not my enemies -- tobacco companies are -- there are many great advances in the challenge that smokers have in their desire to stop smoking.  Some, like my father, do not overcome that challenge.  This page was made in memory of my father, Floyd William Hayden (1939-1990), and all other victims of the genocidal tobacco industry.
