Last Weekend Whaleboat Row of 2023

We managed to avoid any rain and survived some drama with the San Francisco Police and Coast Guard boats who were obviously on the hunt for something.

These pictures are courtesy of fellow rower Darren. The first one is so multi-layered! He also managed to capture a very small sailboat pulling a dinghy out of the marina nearby.

Updated Pictures of Foster Dogs

Father Peanut black and tan chihuahua mix, age 6, and son Zorro (black Pomeranian with pointed ears), age 3, are a bonded pair that need a forever home. They are awaiting spay-neuter surgery and Zorro will also get his “cherry-eyes” remediated surgically. These should happen in January 2024.

New Fountain December 2023

I totally nerd out over water features in my garden. The four we have going each day are very zen.

These little motors don’t last forever, though, particularly as we run them daily between sunrise and sunset, with some exceptions. The good news is that I repurpose all the old fountains (three so far) mostly as planters.

Shando had the very good idea that this one should be brought in from the edge of the porch, which actually facilitated the wiring with the smart plugs. This one lights up, so having it on the back porch has a really lovely effect. It’s close enough to the family room that we can run it into the evening and hear and watch it from the couch. it’s not so close to the sliding door that it causes splashes and spots, which was annoying when the previous one was there.

I’ve had the frog figurine and the lilypad stool for a while. They were bought separately but I have to keep them together, right? I tried to glue the frog to the top, especially to cover a hole that exists there by design, but the curvature of the stool is concave, and therefore the flat part of the frog figurine will not adhere to it.

Vallejo Grand Victorian Homes Tour 2023

For the first time, Shando and I attended the Grand Victorian Homes Tour, although there are some exceptions to that specific style among the fabulous houses and structures on the tour. The Naval Chapel on Mare Island was one of them, and there were a few mixtures of Craftsman and Mid-Century Modern which were very appropriately included. It was great hanging out with friends who had a similar interest and who were willing to walk the downtown area to see more than a half-dozen of the homes participating. We ended up at the wine tasting place on Mare Island where the last two structures were located. Regrettably, due to it being so close to the winter solstice, it got dark after the first few hours, so we did not take in the full view of many of the homes, but knowing the city better now, I can imagine what some of the views would be on a regular basis, including the amazing sunsets from many vantage points. As with the Garden Tour that happens each May, I loved getting decorating ideas and talking about utilitarian things with other geeks of that nature.

I’m also glad that the funds for this event go to a good cause, and furthering cultural awareness in Vallejo.

Here are some of the details that we loved. In the mid-century modern house, there was an Audrey Hepburn room and a Marilyn Monroe room with their own xmas trees. The Audrey one has her costume for Breakfast at Tiffany’s if you look closely.:
