My Cactus is Having Twins
My cactus is having TWINS! This mother cactus is about one-half of a much taller cactus that was left at my mom’s house in 2016 after it was destroyed by fire. She, my brother, and my nephew moved in with Shando and me, but unfortunately, my mom died a few months later of ovarian cancer unrelated to the fire, so this is definitely a sentimental plant. Without any attention to it, months after she died and even longer after the fire, when the house was nearly renovated, I found this lone cactus in her backyard and adopted it. A few years later it toppled in the wind and half of it broke off and both halves are planted in different pots in my backyard without missing a beat. One small piece also fell off and has the current fuzz on top of it that you can see, which these gross flies are loving. Recently I got a little smarter and put the large cactus piece in a much wider pot, hoping to foster growth, especially with some better quality topsoil, and voila. She’s pregnant!

Concord Pride Tabling for LGBTQMinusTobacco
Happy to help where I can with this cause! Brian Davis of LGBTQ Minus Tobacco and I tabled in Concord where they had a nice pride event. It’s nice that I was recognized by a few folks despite this being over the water from where I live and still pretty far from where I lived when I was in the East Bay all those years. I did work nearby in Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill area for six years, but this is an important cause and there is momentum with the Tobacco Retail License here that the City of Concord has in the works. I hope I was able to bring some awareness to the locals.
Great morning rowing
I’m wearing a grey cap on the left. The Carquinez Bridge is in the background (it’s actually two bridges).

Speaking at City Council about Wasting Funds on Landscaping
As President of the Glen Cove Community Association, I spoke on behalf of the organization of volunteers for 3,000 households in Glen Cove, Vallejo. Residents pay about $1,000,000 a year for our Landscape Maintenance District (LMD) and City of Vallejo resources to inspect the contractor’s work. That’s $30,000 a MONTH, but for many months there is no work done! GCCA was told that sometimes the contractor doesn’t find enough people to work for some months. However, THEY STILL GET PAID.
You can hear the audible gasps from the audience!
[Sarcasm on] Great work if you can get it! [Sarcasm off]
That is absurd. I asked for accountability and it sounded like the Mayor and City Council listened. Hopefully, these comments will not only help foster more accountability for our neighborhood but also for the rest of the LMD’s throughout Vallejo. Enjoy!
More Solar Panels
We’re now ready for an electronic vehicle and we will be 100% renewable energy because we will produce more than enough energy for our needs currently.
I was very specific about where I wanted the solar panels. I was worried they would be too visible from the street, but they were able to accommodate my request to not have two of them dangling off the front of the grade.
