Plants Galore

While I prepare plants for transport to my real home from the rental I got a call from a friend who said another friend of hers needed to purge tons of plants because his landlord has had it with his collection of plants. So to help keep this guy from getting evicted I was glad to be able to buy a ton of plants off of him, especially since some of them are plants that I can use inside and some of them are plants that I’ve always wanted to have in my garden.

This is the garden of a new friend after hundreds of the pots were already removed:

Community Board Kudos from GCCA

Some of you know that I recently stepped down as volunteer President of the Glen Cove Community Association after four years in that position, especially as I’ve recently stepped up to volunteer as president of the Humane Society of the North Bay.

This message was left on the community board in Glen Cove Center, which is so sweet! I was so honored to be involved with GCCA, and I will continue to be deeply involved with this terrific group of neighbors who do so much behind the scenes for our neighborhood and the city of Vallejo, which I love!

Welcome, Saffron (formerly Edna) Hayden

I’ve concluded that Edna is going to be a foster fail, presuming the paperwork goes through, hehe. This senior mutt is welcome into our family, especially because she has special needs. After a horrendous operation to remove dozens of foxtails from her mouth and ears, she’s still medically recovering, needs dental work, and probably has at least one cataract developing. Still, through all that, she has absolutely impressed the hell out of me with her resilience, intelligence, and affection under such tough circumstances. As I embark on moving home and a new year, she has been a gift, which ironically, I met her only as a medical foster after her surgery, and took her home with us sight unseen. Now I cannot see myself sending her off anywhere (even though I know she’d be snapped up in a second at Muttville) when she feels so at home in my arms. When you see her, and you see how she falls into me, you’ll see how I am with many fosters, but most especially my forever dogs, Bonnie and Snoopy. I love these fosters, and I cry when they move on, but sometimes I have to admit that my heart can’t take it. That’s how I had all the dogs I had in my home before the fire, almost all of whom were seniors like Edna, and two of whom were blind like Bonnie.

Rough Saturday Row

Unusually heavy wind and current that we “survived” after our Saturday morning row. The fog rolled in after we started rowing, which didn’t help, and it was one of the coldest rows in memory. However, seeing the current like this right outside the entrance is precisely why we didn’t go out with the new rowers during the subsequent Skills Row we had.

Saved by a Sweaty Church Whore

One of the ways I (hopefully) keep my sanity with the politics and violence in the news, especially this week, is with the morning radio show I listen to 5 days a week, called the Stephanie Miller Show. I can’t believe there aren’t more Steph-heads, but six million isn’t anything to complain about! I’ve been listening for way over a decade. One of my favorite people who calls in is Lacrisha, “the sweaty church whore” from Milwaukee, because her well-planned quips go right up to the line without getting any FCC license violations for terrestrial radio. Lacrisha is pictured here with her official whore T-shirt. This morning was somber, as we got more details about what happened in Minneapolis, but Lacrisha saved the day. She was definitely pissed at the situation, as any sane person would be, but then she asked WHERE are all the moral Republicans? “Quiet as a church mouse pissing on cotton,” she said. Think about that!
