For Mom’s 83rd Birthday
My mother died when she was only 73. Today would have been her 83rd birthday. I can’t believe ovarian cancer took her so quickly in 2016. FUCK CANCER. Through the magic of artificial intelligence, last night I was playing around with her pictures. I consider myself the family archivist, having digitized all photos from multiple generations long before my house fire, of course. My sister said this is her favorite picture of my parents, taken a few months before my dad died in 1990. He also died young, predeceasing one of his parents, as my mom did.
Well, I almost fell on the floor when I heard my mother audibly LAUGH in the AI-generated video of her on that swing:

Hiram and Flora’s joint birthday party
Shea’s first cousin once removed Hiram turned 21 and Shea’s Tita (“Aunt”) Flora turned 87! Shea made keto-friendly goat cheese mushrooms.
Joint Birthday Pool Party
Here are some pictures from our joint pool/birthday party hosted by good friends. We were decidedly not interested in celebrating the country’s birthday this year. I’m not sure if I ever will again at this rate, but it’s important to contribute to our communities and try to make a change. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Thanks to those who were able to make it, given that a lot was going on for this non-working day for most.

Poolside on Pride Day
Twinsies pictures of Snoopy and foster Dolly (fka Penny). This was the day Shea finally got to share his major keto cheesecake concoction. It was well-received and it was a nice way to wind down Pride Day after a sojourn into the city. The dogs, including our two new fosters, really enjoy going to the pool and being around us while we’re relaxing in the warm pool water. It’s nice to have such long days with lots of hours of light to linger into the evenings.

Because Shea is currently doing Keto it made it very challenging for me to find a birthday cake he could eat on his birthday. He found this recipe and made a sample and full-size cake, which turned out well. There is only a tiny amount of carbohydrates in the flour.
